Handy Tip of the Week: Dryer edition. Your household dryer works by heating a metal coil and circulating air over it and back into the drum. Failure to maintain and clean/service your dryer on a regular basis can lead to failure and in some cases fire. Over the last year I have serviced 5 dryers that had burnt material in them.
For 2 people and no pets - every 5 years.
For families with kids and pets - at least every 3 years.
The unit should be fully disassembled, every surface cleaned, pull the felt seals and clean, clean and inspect the bearings of all wheels and pulleys (l**e with white lithium grease if needed). Measure the resistance of the heating element. Reassemble and ensure smooth flow in the vent duct. No kinks or excess bends.
