While structural steel doesn’t burn, it loses up to 50% of its strength at around 600°C (1100°F) — which can compromise a building’s integrity during a fire.

That’s why fireproofing materials like spray coatings or intumescent paint are critical in construction. They help protect the steel and buy valuable time in an emergency.
