We have started the exterior renovation on our Family Home (The Darby House) originally built in 1826. These walls have not seen light in almost 200 years other than removing the odd board to drill holes for the insulation.

Impressively almost 200 years old and no rot.

Home was built with:
- 3x6 Timber framed walls 18 1/2 inch on centre
- True 1 inch boards for sheathing, some more than 20 inches wide.
- 5/8 Flat hemlock(no bevel) for clapboard
-Birch bark around windows, corners and joints.

We ordered band saw cut hemlock for corners, skirt board and window trim. Also band saw cut cedar beveled clapboard for siding.

We installed new paint matched identical insert windows last year to preserve the historical trim.

We hope to preserve this home so it will last many more years to come.
