The Filipino Edition will host Team Philippines for a celebratory dinner tonight August 1st, 2023, at Kulinarya Restaurant on Commercial Drive, Vancouver starting at 7 pm. (see http://www.kulinarya.ca/main/index.html )

DROWNING IS SILENT

Unlike in dramatic reenactments, real drowning is silent – no yelling, no splashing, just a quiet slippage.
How can we spot and most importantly prevent drowning? How can we prepare ourselves to help ourself or others on the spot?

The Filipino Edition talks with two experts on Drowning:
Dale Miller, Executive Director of the Lifesaving Society of BC & Yukon and a former lifeguard
and
Steve Beerman, M.D., a former lifeguard and former President of the International Life Saving Federation. Dr. Beerman was awarded the King Edward VII Cup in May 2021 by Queen Elizabeth II for his international advocacy to reduce the risks of drowning.

Also, hear the story of Emily Treen's experience in responding to a drowning incident in Harrison Lake BC in the summer of 2021.
