TOXIC DRUG ALERT for Maple Ridge: Light brown granules sold as Down were found to contain very high concentrations of Carfentanil, a very toxic fentanyl analog.
Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times more potent than fentanyl. It is primarily used in veterinary medicine for large animals and is not intended for human use.
If someone experiences a toxic drug poisoning, call 911 immediately and stay with them. Naloxone can reverse its effects, but multiple doses may be necessary. Monitor the person's breathing before administering more naloxone.

When the world is here, we want everyone to feel safe and supported. Whether you’re visiting or newly settled, having a game plan for your health matters.
Here are a few care options to help you find the right care at the right time so you can focus on enjoying the experience.
At this year’s Five Days in May health research showcase, researchers, clinicians and people with lived experience came together to share work that is improving care across B.C., including new efforts to better understand and diagnose brain injuries linked to interpersonal violence.
For many survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), the impact of head injury or strangulation can go unseen and untreated. These injuries are often unwitnessed, under-recognized and underdiagnosed.
At Fraser Health’s Embrace Clinic, this research is already shaping care. The team is part of an international study exploring how to better identify IPV-related brain injuries, including potential links to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
Blood samples from Embrace Clinic clients are sent to UBC for analysis, where researchers analyze the samples to identify biomarkers of injury.
Transcranial doppler technology will soon be used to better understand how blood flow in the brain is affected following trauma.
While still in the research phase, this work has the potential to transform how these injuries are diagnosed, helping shape a future where care is more informed, more responsive, and better able to support survivors.
