07/12/2026
Christina Lake is doing lots of great educational outreach and becoming a Bat Friendly Community.
Our next Youth Program is happening Friday, July 10th from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM! This week, we're discovering the fascinating world of bats and why these amazing nighttime animals are so important to our ecosystem!
This week's theme: "Bats: Nature's Nighttime Heroes."
Kids will learn all about the bats that live around Christina Lake, discover how they use echolocation to find their food, and explore why bats are some of our best natural insect controllers. We'll spend most of the morning outdoors playing games, taking on exciting challenges, and learning about these incredible flying mammals.
Here's what's in store:
🦇 Bat Bug Challenge Take on the challenge of eating Jell-O with bugs in it and see if you can finish it like a hungry bat.
🎲 Bat Games and Activities Take part in fun outdoor games that teach how bats fly, hunt, and their life cycle.
📍 Where to Meet: Christina Lake Stewardship Society Interpretive Gallery (inside the Christina Lake Welcome Centre).
⏰ Start Time: We begin at 10:00 AM sharp, so please arrive 10 minutes early to sign in.
🎒 What to Bring:
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Hat and sunscreen
• Water bottle
• Weather appropriate clothing (we'll be outside for most of the program)
If you have any questions, reach out. We're always happy to help! We can't wait to spend the morning discovering the amazing world of bats through games, challenges, and outdoor adventures with you!
This program is registration only and has limited spots so sign up now!

For those of you who are wandering why the BC Community Bat Program has been a bit slow to respond to your bat reports, questions, requests for site visits, bat safety information, exclusion best management practices, bat box information...and to conduct our bat conservation work, you might find this open letter insightful. Our program has been caught in this shortfall as well.
Thanks to many private donations, the support from the BC Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship, and several regional grants, we will be able to organize bat counts between July 11th - August 5th in some BC regions. Keep an eye out for more information to come. Thank you everyone for your continued support for bat conservation.😍
An Open Letter to Canada’s Wildlife By Cori Lausen, WCS Canada Director of Bat Conservation Dear Canadian Species at Risk, We hope this letter finds you well. Spring is now officially behind us.
