Can you explain to me how an apprenticeship works? 🤩
Most people can explain how to apply to college or university, what kind of courses you need to take and how grades are important. Sadly, unless they’ve done an apprenticeship, not many people can explain the pathway.
It’s actually quite simple and involves just a few steps:
1. Get a job working in the skilled trades. For example, you want to be an electrician, you need to work with a licensed electrician.
2. Get a Registered Training Agreement. This means the employer agrees to sponsor you as an apprentice and you are registered with the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.
3. Go to a college or training center for about 8 weeks at a time. This happens 2-3 times throughout your apprenticeship.
4. Write the exam for your Certificate of Qualification.
🪄Done! All of this takes about 3-5 years and you are earning money the entire time!
Everyone should understand the apprenticeship pathway, the incredible career opportunities👷♀️👷🏾, satisfying work 💪 and excellent pay💰!
