✨Meet Eugenia! An artist we are so honoured to work with! ✨
Eugenia Ochoa is a Salvadorean womxn, feminist, and recent-ish newcomer to Canada. She works in community engagement with an Ontario-based NGO and exists in the spaces between community building, arts-based storytelling and policy.
Eugenia’s visual art sheds light on the Salvadorean reality. This usually takes the contradictory form of vibrant colours and large paintings that grapple with social justice issues such as gender inequality, corruption, race and political + social constructs that make up the reality of her home. Her paintings and installations question the status of womxn and Salvadoreans at large, speaking to her own lived experience, that of other womxn in Central America, in Turtle Island and globally.
In her community engagement work, Eugenia focuses on co-creating multi-media projects, feminist storytelling and creating open and inclusive spaces for critical & transformative dialogue that can help advance social change.
