WE WANT YOU (to answer some questions)!

We are busy developing our first season, and we want your input! For the next few weeks, we’ll be asking you via social media and our website about the highs and lows of your performing life. After all, this is a project created by artists for artists, and while we can't solve all problems (we can dream!), we sure can provide a safe and supportive environment to talk about them.

Have there been times when you felt undersupported in your career or your life? Is the travel or schedule really tricky to manage with your partner/family? Could you have used more resources for support at a critical time in your life? Have you struggled with underrepresentation or misrepresentation of your culture or identity? In short: what are some of the things that really bother you about working in the industry?

We also want to hear about all the amazing things you love about your work! What really cranks your gears? Maybe you feel on fire when you're on stage. Maybe finding that perfect way to stage a scene is the best high you can think of. Maybe you love the fact that your rehearsal schedule lets you sleep in past 9 AM, because you’re not a morning person!

It’s questions like these that will fuel where we take our discussions. What impacts you the most, whether it’s positive or negative, is exactly what we should be talking about. So, let’s hear it!

We welcome all forms of response - Facebook Messenger, comments, posts to either the Troubadour Project Facebook or Instagram profiles (don’t forget to tag us!), Instagram story responses, email, carrier pigeon, morse code. Whatever is most comfortable and convenient for you.

We encourage vulnerability, and we recognize some of this information may be sensitive, so if you wish to remain anonymous, just let us know. :)

Without furthur ado... Happy typing!

A little bit about us...

What we see

The performing artists of today face increasing pressure to produce more with less resources. There is a rising trend in artist burnout, stress, and diagnoses of depression and anxiety. Companies and artists alike are under the financial strain of ever increasing costs in some of Canada’s most expensive cities.

On the bright side, toxic workplace environments within the performing arts are now being challenged. Systems that were in lockstep with antiquity are finally being disrupted. And while these changes are happening, more is needed for the performing arts to thrive and grow into the future.

Artists are the earth in which we grow our culture. They are the beginning of the entire process. With this philosophy, what better way to progress the performing arts industry than by enriching the artists themselves. Contrary to the notion that artists need to suffer to create, we believe that whole, healthy, invigorated artists are the key to real innovation and creativity.
