My hearts is heavy hearing about the recent tragedy at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party in Vancouver, BC. As someone who joins festivals as a performer and dance mentor — and as a friend to some of the organizers here in Toronto, ON — this news hits even closer to home. Festivals are meant to be a celebration of our culture, unity, and joy.

It’s heartbreaking that violence touched such a beautiful event, and it reminds us of the deep mental health struggles that can exist unseen. Now more than ever, we need to come together, offer support, and uplift one another.

My deepest condolences to the families, organizers, and the entire Filipino community. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. 💔🇵🇭
