every year on my birthday i ask my mum all about my birth and she patiently answers each individual question (“and what did i smell like?”, “and who came to visit us?” etc) and each year i get a slightly different retelling of the story. this year i was reminded that she had a waterbed at the time, which does make it sound like an entirely different era. my favourite part is always that after i was born (“and then what did you do?”) she went to have a smoke with a guy she knew whose daughter was in the hospital having a baby too. anyway my mum quit smoking a long long time ago and then i smoked for like a hundred years but eventually i quit too and wow has it ever been a journey to get off ni****ne entirely. i’m very into dentyne peppermint and i trim almost 1/4” off each ni****ne patch now and that is a long way from the sometimes 2 packs a day i smoked. miraculously, i don’t want to smoke. but i do want a waterbed
