On September 29th, 2025, the current de-facto government issued a ban on fibre-optic internet (often used for Wi‐Fi and high‑speed broadband) across Afghanistan, a decision that plunged an entire nation into darkness.

Overnight, millions were cut off from the outside world. Businesses collapsed, students lost access to education, journalists were silenced, and families were severed from loved ones abroad. The internet had been more than just a tool, it was a fragile thread connecting them to hope, to opportunity, to the world beyond their borders.
