Diet cost is a perceived barrier to diet intervention that is often cited. Participants in our recent EASe-GAD trial told us that they spent less on food during the study; however, no methods existed to formally answer this question.

We developed and pilot tested an approach to collecting and analysing diet data so that we can compare baseline and intervention diets in future research studies.

This project involved researchers from CCNM, CMCC, Ontario Tech University, Bastyr University, and RAND. The project received a pilot grant through the RAND REACH Center.

Event: 2026 International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health (ICIMH) held from April 20-23 in Salt Lake city, Utah, US
Category: Cohort studies
Area: Physical Medicine
Theme: Spinal manipulation and lower back pain

OA. 03. 04.: A US data resource (TriNetX, LLC) was selected for patients age ≥18 years who had a new episode of low back pain (LBP) with or without sciatica from 2015 to 2023, with a ≥2 years of follow-up to 2025. A retrospective cohort study was conducted comparing the spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) cohort to ibuprofen cohort with opioid use disorder (OUD) risk factors. Patients getting SMT for new LBP had a lower risk of OUD compared to matched controls prescribed ibuprofen.
