“Our family’s journey with SickKids began during one of the most frightening moments of our lives - and it became a story of hope that we will carry with us forever.

In 2021, as newcomers to Canada, our lives changed overnight. Our 16-year-old daughter Dhimahee suddenly became very ill. After urgent testing, doctors diagnosed her with severe jaundice and immediately transferred her to SickKids.

We were terrified. Everything felt overwhelming and uncertain. But the moment we arrived, something changed. Our fear slowly began to turn into hope.

Doctors and nurses worked tirelessly, running tests and carefully monitoring our daughter’s condition. They identified the most likely cause: multiple gallstones along with a rare blood disorder caused by a mutation in her blood cells.

For years, we had searched for answers. Back in our home country of India, Dhimahee had undergone many tests due to low hemoglobin levels, but no one could determine the root cause.

The team at SickKids did what others could not. They looked at her entire medical history, connected every piece, and gave us the clarity we had been missing for so long.

SickKids gave us understanding when we were confused, reassurance when we were afraid, and hope when we felt helpless. Dhimahee’s surgery was arranged quickly, and the level of care she received was nothing short of extraordinary.

Today, our daughter is healthy, strong, and thriving. And that is because of SickKids.

We will always be deeply grateful for the care, kindness, and life-changing support we received. We are proud monthly donors, and we will continue to support SickKids so that other families can experience the same compassion and excellence that helped save our daughter.”

With heartfelt gratitude,
Shweta and Harshad (Dhimahee’s Parents)

As a SickKids parent, monthly donor and a Costco employee, Shweta has experienced the full impact and importance of giving back to the Hospital that changed everything for her family.

We want to thank Costco Wholesale Canada, their customers, and employees like Shweta for their commitment to SickKids. Together they’ve raised a lifetime total of over $25 million dollars in support of the Hospital’s highest priority needs. We’re so grateful for their ongoing partnership. 💙

"After everything he’s endured being able to celebrate his biggest milestone yet at home was more than we could have hoped for."

Meet Gordon. AKA Gordie or “the happiest, friendliest and funniest boy” you’ll ever meet. 🥹

Born with multiple complex heart defects, Gordie’s first year of life was filled with appointments, procedures and hospital stays at SickKids.

After a year of uncertainty, his strength and resilience led him to celebrate his first birthday at home surrounded by friends and family. 🎂 🥳

“I don’t think we can ever fully put into words how thankful we are for SickKids, for giving us the chance to not only watch our boy grow but to thrive and to celebrate his first birthday, something we once weren’t sure we would get to do,” shares his mom, Phoebe. 💙

“We all have the same story, with a different diagnosis and there’s no explanation needed.”

To the bereaved fathers, soon-to-be dads, the single dads, the father figures, the caregivers, the experienced dads, SickKids dads, and all those who fall somewhere in between, your story matters. Thank you for everything you do.💙

Happy Father’s Day!
