Electric Sense

A quiet, tuneful beginning with Emma, but it didn't remain so. Typha (or TYΦA as they spell it), apparently the scientific name for cattails as I just discovered after a rather involved search, came in next with some very close-to-nature sounds with electronic manipulations, followed by some free improvisation by Ward/Gennaro/Edwards recorded in Germany, and ending with some gentle ambiance from Matthew. Finishing off was some more free improv, this time from the other side of the Atlantic.

Some "oldies" this week, as well as a few recent and forthcoming things. Marla and Christof got us underway with an impending release or burbling sounds, then a couple of improvising ensembles, the first from Michigan stringing us along with their delightful plucking and strumming, followed by some local lads who will be appearing at The Tranzac next month with a more electronic sound. Next up was an entry in the 2012 JTTP competition run by the Canadian Electroacoustic Community that seemed to fit nicely with the Hannaford Street Silver Band that followed providing support for the pipigwan soloing by composer Barbara (Croall) Assiginaak. Concluding was David Eagle's piece Soundplay 1 is a solo computer work from a release by the Land's End ensemble; due to a time shortfall, we also heard a snippet of the piece that follows it on the CD, by Shane Fage.
