Great reminders!

Thanks for including us in your holiday plans. That means a lot. Our participation may not look the same as other guests, but we’re trying our best.

Please understand that:

Crowds and noise can be hard. Offer a safe, quiet space. A bedroom is fine, but you may find us under your sheets :)

Small talk can be hard. Ask specific questions about concrete concepts. "Is that a new sweater?" is easier to answer than "how was your Christmas?" We may take an extra minute to respond, and we need you to stop talking while we’re thinking.

Food sensitivity is real. Not all textures, tastes and smells work for us. Offer choices and accept a refusal without judgment. Let us know that we can bring food that works for us and that you won’t be upset.

A schedule of what’s happening and when, reduces anxiety and lets us plan our visit for best success. We may need to arrive late, take breaks, skip activities, or leave early. It’s not you, it’s us.

There’s no one size fits all, but with your help, we can all have a great time.

Thanks for caring about families like ours.

THE COURAGE TO ADVOCATE: FINDING YOUR VOICE: A PARENT’S GUIDE TO SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVOCACY | AUTISM, ADHD, DD 12/12/2025

📘 New Resource for Parents Navigating Special Education

I wanted to share a resource that some parents may find helpful.

I’ve recently published a book called The Courage to Advocate: Finding Your Voice — A Parent’s Guide to Special Education Advocacy That Works. It was written for parents of children with autism and other developmental disabilities who are navigating IEPs, school communication, behaviour plans, placement discussions, and school-related challenges.

The book focuses on practical, easy-to-use strategies for communicating with schools, understanding processes, and advocating calmly and effectively. The content is not tied to any specific school board or region and is designed to be applicable in a wide range of educational settings.

For those who have asked, the book is now available on Amazon:

My hope is that this resource helps parents feel more informed, confident, and supported as they advocate for their children.
