Judith e Martin () made her first quilt at the age of twenty and soon became inspired by the quilt’s connection to the important life passages that occur in bed.

During the 90’s, she made hand-stitched story quilts using the poetic code she discovered in traditional quilt patterns and world embroidery. Today Judy continues to quilt using traditional hand stitch methods, local natural dyes and used domestic textiles to make poetic quilts about the interior world.

A long-time member of Craft Ontario, Judy Martin received the award for mid-career achievement in 2018. Her art is included in many private collections around the world as well as several public collections in Ontario, the Canada Council Art Bank and the International Quilt Museum in the USA.

We are honoured to be currently displaying her work alongside that of her daughter, April Martin, in the exhibition 'Earlier & Later'.
➡On display in the Craft Ontario Gallery until July 25, 2026
