OCCUPIERS’ LIABILITY: WHAT DOES IT MEAN? ⚖️

Property owners, businesses, landlords, and others who control a property have a legal duty to take reasonable steps to keep visitors safe.

Hazards such as wet floors, uneven walkways, inadequate lighting, unsafe stairs, snow and ice, and construction-related dangers can lead to serious injuries. When a property owner fails to address these risks, they may be held legally responsible for the harm that results.

Occupiers’ liability claims can arise from a wide range of accidents, and understanding your rights early can help protect your interests.

Attention students, retirees, stay-at-home parents, and unemployed Ontarians renewing auto insurance after July 1, 2026 ⚠️

Non-earner benefits will no longer be automatically included in standard auto insurance coverage in Ontario.

That means if you’re injured in an accident and unable to continue your normal daily life, you may not qualify for these benefits unless you specifically add the optional coverage at renewal.

Before renewing your policy, make sure you understand what coverage you may be giving up.

Most people know not to post about their accident online. What they don’t know is that deleting posts can be just as damaging.

In Ontario, courts and insurers can request your post history — and if it looks like you scrubbed your account after getting hurt, it raises serious red flags about your credibility.

Before you delete anything, go private, or post an update about how you’re doing, talk to a lawyer first.
