Year three after planting a in my backyard- in the last 5 days all the leaves came out and hid all the houses around me. Funny story: I was talking to the local gardener - he was with pesticide in hand killing 1000s of dandelions on a lawn and asked me if it was true if you don’t till up the garden that weeds don’t grow- I arched my eyebrow and said do you see any dandelions on my property? I have been hand picking them slowly for a few years but between mulching with leaves and an occasional hand pull …there are less than 6 on the whole property. The cheeky fox was back again yesterday surveying the back garden. Once he left the bunnies came back for a lawn lunch. Not sure why a percentage of people give me such grief. Truthfully, I get lots of love too but it astonishes me how hot under the collar people get - I am literally laying down a green bandaid for the planet - perhaps they just need a break outside in nature….

Not you typical family outing. But with husband and son in tow and with the help of Mark and Danny we filled a dumpster with all the masonry and concrete removed from site. Wow that covers me for weight lifting this week … looking forward to the relative ease of raking out the grading and planting 100s of native shrubs. It will take years for the hedgerow to grow and create privacy and habitat. But I picked the species based on colour throughout the year. Might have to sneak back in a few years to see how it turns out.
