Sarah didn't know the signs of type 1 diabetes because she'd never seen them portrayed accurately.
As her son Kingsley's health declined, there were warning signs: unexplained weight loss, excessive thirst, exhaustion and vomiting. But no one had suggested checking his blood glucose or ketones.
"By the time we reached the doctor's office five minutes away, he couldn't walk."
Kingsley was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious and potentially life-threatening complication of T1D.
Ketone testing shouldn't be reactive. Check ketones when blood glucose is high or when you feel unwell. Recognizing the signs early and knowing when to act can help prevent DKA.
Read Sarah's story and others to learn why ketone awareness matters. Download the Ketone + DKA Guide š https://ow.ly/RsPO50Zo18V

For too many people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in Ontario, accessing insulin pump therapy isn't as simple as it should be.
Ontario's insulin pump program still includes outdated barriers that can delay access to life-changing technology and leave families paying hundreds of dollars out of pocket each year.
We're advocating for two important changes:
āļø Remove the mandatory 12-month wait before becoming eligible for insulin pump coverage.
āļø Increase funding for pump supplies to better reflect today's costs.
More than 150 healthcare providers across Ontario have already signed a letter supporting these changes. Now, it's time for our community to help make our voices heard. If you live in Ontario, you can support this advocacy by sending a letter to your MPP. š https://ow.ly/F0M550ZmqTW
Together, we can help ensure everyone living with T1D has equitable access to the care they deserve. Learn more and take action at the link in our bio.
When Alaiza was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at just 13 months old, Melissa and her family had never heard of T1D. Like many families, they didn't realize it was an autoimmune disease that requires lifelong insulin therapy.
Since that day, they've learned what it truly means to live with T1D every day, and they've found an incredible community of support along the way. Now, they're looking forward to the Max Domi Golf Classic, where families, supporters and advocates come together with a shared goal: creating a better future for everyone living with T1D.
Thank you to Max Domi Fund and Omnipod Canada for helping make this event possible and for supporting the research, innovation and community that give families like Melissa's hope for better treatments and, one day, a cure. š
