The Zoryan Institute mourns the loss of our cherished GHRUP alumna, Prof. Regine Uwibereyeho King.

A survivor of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Regine dedicated her life to understanding trauma and rebuilding communities like her own affected by violence. She was a remarkable scholar, educator, and member of the Zoryan Institute community whose impact will be felt for years to come.

We send our heartfelt condolences to her family and all those lucky to know her.

The Zoryan Institute is pleased to share that on April 22, 2026, the Córdoba community gathered at Cine Arte Córdoba for a screening of Aurora’s Sunrise, marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Aurora’s Sunrise is an award-winning documentary based on the testimony of Armenian Genocide survivor Aurora Mardiganian, whose original survivor account is preserved in the Zoryan Institute’s Armenian Genocide Oral History Collection.

Bringing her powerful story of survival to a wider audience, the screening was organized by Colectividad Armenia de Córdoba and made possible thanks to the leadership of Benjamin Hairabedian, a graduate of the Zoryan Institute’s 2025 Genocide and Human Rights University Program.

The Zoryan Institute is honoured to announce the establishment of the Levonty Kazarian Award for Genocide Studies, created in memory of Levonty Kazarian through an endowment from Dr. Shahe Kazarian.

The annual award will recognize a high school student whose essay demonstrates a strong engagement with a genocide studies and human rights topic.

In commemoration of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day yesterday, the Zoryan Institute is pleased to share a new publication from Scholar’s Corner titled “When the Past Doesn’t Stay in the Past: Turkey’s ICJ Move Between Principle and Hypocrisy” by Öndercan Muti, a graduate of the Genocide and Human Rights University Program.

The article looks at Turkey’s role in South Africa’s ICJ case, pointing out the tension between its strong criticism of Tel Aviv and its ongoing denial of past atrocities to question how this weakens the broader fight for justice.
