What do you do if you see that your website engagement is low?

First, it's really important that you get clear on what you define as engagement and what "low" means for you.

Engagement can be:
- The amount of time your visitors spend on your site
- The number of pages that they look at during their visit
- The actual pages that they look at
- The actions that they take during their visit
- How much of the page content they look at (i.e. how far down your pages do they scroll to)

Once you are clear on what engagement is, and you're clear on what "low" means for your business and your website. Let's discuss places to look into to diagnose potential causes.

Before you change things, you need to clarify the following:
1) Is is all traffic sources or just certain ones?
2) Is it traffic that lands on a certain page on your site?
3) Is is during a specific time period or consistently?
4) What are you running/launching in the business at the time?

Once you know these, you can then make changes. Certainly with the knowledge of the pages, or the time period you can determine if the following changes are needed.

Things you can play with:
1) The website copy
2) The page you send certain traffic to
3) The layout of the content on the page
4) The copy on your CTA's
5) The marketing message and how it connects to the content on your website

From here, you see if the changes you made result in an improvement in your engagement rate.

No such thing as failure in analytics, just learnings.

This is the super power that data can give you when it comes to understanding the performance of your marketing strategies.

Data is what makes it possible for you to be truly 'Strategic'. Without it, you don't really truly know how something is doing. You may think you do, but you really don't.

Yes, you could see positive results, but could they be better?

If you see not so positive results, do you know why?

Business is all about trying new things, it's about experimenting. But it's also about learning from your experiments and using the results to direct your next steps.

Data plays a key role in your being able to experiment in your business, this is why it's so important that you ensure that you're capturing what you need and that it's correct and complete. You don't want to be making business decisions with incorrect or incomplete data. 😰

Have you had these thoughts too? ⬆️

Thoughts of:
- It's so boring to look at your data
- What do you even do with the numbers you're seeing
- Going into makes me breakout in a sweat.

I complete understand and I hope that I have given you some things to think about and provide you with tools and resources to help you with these and any other thoughts around data and looking at your data that you may have.

Your metrics are here to support your growth. 🌱

The role of data in your business is to give you feedback and to offer guidance on next steps.

You bring your inspiration, your strategies and your experiments and data will tell you how it went.

Why should you care?

Because without this, you run the risk of continuing to do things that are not leading to business growth - whatever this is for YOU!

Business growth will and should be unique to you. It will also be something that changes over time and season to season. It's not static at all and your way of measuring it shouldn't be either.

But you need to start measuring. I'm a huge supporter of going with what inspires you, of trying things out, of testing a new idea or strategy, but as a business owner, if there aren't any numbers attached to this then how will you know if it worked the way you wanted it to?

I recommend that you take time to review all the strategies that you have put in place in your business (i.e. your social media, your email marketing, your content creation, your launches, your challenges, EVERYTHING) and think of metrics that will show you how they performed or are performing. No need to get fancy, keep it simple to start and go from there.
