Wondering what our Tabata class is all about?
Developed by Dr. Izumi Tabata, Tabata training is a type of HIIT (high intensity interval training) training that is proven to increase anaerobic and aerobic performance more than longer duration moderate intensity exercise.
Tabata involves 8 rounds of your most intense effort for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds of rest.
At SCULLHOUSE, our Tabata is a combination of rowing and mat exercises.
We do a progression on the erg (rower), followed by 8-10 minutes of rowing with hard strokes to warm up.
Following the warm up, you have 4 rounds of Tabata. Rounds 1 & 4 are on the erg, rounds 2 & 3 are on the mat.
Class is 45 minutes and flies by!! Check it out - every Friday morning at 7 am with coach Kristin.

Giving thanks 🙏 can make you happier. Researchers have tied gratitude to optimism, higher levels of exercise, improved relationships, and fewer visits to the doctor.

How can we cultivate gratitude? Write a thank-you note, thank someone, keep a gratitude journal, meditate, use your daily language to incorporate gratitude. These small shifts in our thinking can have powerful and lasting impacts on our brains and bodies!

A huge thank you to our amazing community for helping me through some tough days!!! 🙏🏻
As I reflected on your emails, messages and comments (because I read, and, re-read them all!!) I was reminded of three important lessons I had lost sight of.
1 - You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when you’re done.
* I learned this deeply when I was rowing competitively. You have probably heard me say it in class; yet, I had forgotten to apply it to the bigger picture. When you have a goal worth pursuing, don’t stop when you’re tired. Rest. Then, keep going and get it done.
2 - Community isn’t a place, it’s people. Our community is not a building or an address - it is the people we have connected with and who have connected with us. It is the relationships we’ve built together. SCULLHOUSE - we’ve built some SOLID relationships!
3 - It is ok to ask for help! Always a hard one for me. We don’t need to be able to do everything all the time. In fact, we can’t. We’re human. We all have our good days and our bad. We have strengths and weaknesses. Asking for help isn’t admitting defeat, it’s doing everything you can to make sure you get the job done!
I know there will still be hard days ahead, but together, I know we can make it though. With much love and gratitude, thank-you! ❤️🙏🏻❤️

It’s neither pretty nor eloquent, but it’s my truth and my honesty.
Just a bit of a heart to heart as we begin another government mandated closure.
Warning - it’s a bit long and rambling. I’ve just been feeling so stuck and heavy. Maybe I’m selfishly hoping that sharing my feelings with you will help me feel lighter.
Listen, or not, this is all about letting go of the things I can’t control and surrendering to a greater plan. I’ll do everything I can and then, I’ll let it go…
P.S. During my rambling, I neglected to mention our amazing front desk crew who also pivoted with us at each and every stage of this pandemic. There were many classes this fall when the majority of people taking class were our front desk crew. Knowing you guys are supporting us means so much. We couldn’t be doing any of this without you.
Thank you to each of our front desk team, our coaches and my wonderful partner.
