Hybrid Pride Shabbat

We invite everyone in our community—all backgrounds, orientations, and gender identities—to come together (in person or online) and celebrate LGBTQ2S+ Pride during Toronto Pride Month.

This year's Pride Shabbat Service holds special significance as we gather in a time of both celebration and challenge for the LGBTQ2S+ community. We welcome Dr. Alex Abramovich (he/him), an internationally recognized senior scientist with the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). He will share insights into his groundbreaking work with q***r and trans youth, with a specific focus on mental health and homelessness. He will also share his experience as a Jewish trans man and dad. This is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the experiences, resilience and ongoing challenges facing q***r and trans individuals across Canada and the United States.

Following the service, please stay for a community discussion facilitated by members of our LGBTQ2S+ committee. This will be an opportunity to reflect on Dr. Abramovich's message, share our own experiences, and learn how to be effective allies to trans and q***r people. There will also be an opportunity after the service to contribute to the DJC’s Rainbow Wall, a collaborative art project meant to resemble a community bulletin board where everyone—whether q***r, straight, cisgender, transgender or anywhere in between—can share a message or get creative to celebrate Pride.

The DJC is once again participating in the Free Summer Lunch To-Go Program along with other Danforth Multifaith Commons' partners. The goal of the program is to provide a nutritious take-away lunch for those who are food insecure in our community. DMC partners take turns making and handing out bagged lunches in front of 310 Danforth every Tuesday from June 2 - Sept. 28. The DJC provides a team to do this once a month.

Zoom Only: Yoga & Schmooze with Rabbi Glickman
Saturday, 16 May | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Begin your Shabbat morning with Jewish movement and meditation. Join your DJC community monthly on Shabbat morning for embodied prayer practice. Have a mat (or a towel) and a water bottle on hand. Following our yoga session, there will be an opportunity for schmoozing as we wish each other Shabbat Shalom. All yoga poses will be adaptable to various needs.
