In honour of By the Neck being released today, here’s some BTS of how we put this one together.

📸 1: This beautiful artwork was done by Aubrey Crowe / Recursion Error! We wanted to evoke a bird strike pattern, playing with the band’s iconography while leaning heavy into ritualistic elements.

📸 2: By the Neck was first written at Will’s on April 25th, 2024. We were looking to shake things up, try recording somewhere new, outside of the studio. The general arrangement pretty much came together in that single afternoon and the lyrics came a couple days later.

We knew we wanted to get heavier, we knew we could pull something like that off, but By the Neck was really the catalyst for the songwriting kick we’ve been on ever since. We’re a lot more comfortable in that realm now, and By the Neck was an exercise in immediate gratification that yes, we could and would get nastier.

📸 3: It was titled “No Mood” for a really long time even though we all sort of knew that wouldn’t be its final title.

📸 4: Olivia letting out her inner lounge singer at Houndstooth. It was around this time we started to realize how important it was to workshop our songs live in front of audiences before committing them to a recording. We also played Tabu in Guelph, The Garrison, and to a packed for , a set which also featured Across the Coals, still unreleased at the time.

Getting used to the new studio space and had a blast with .photo in rehearsals last week.

Two exciting things coming up for us:

🔹 First, we’re releasing our next single By The Neck on June 28th! This is a tune we’ve been playing live for a while now and we’re so happy you can finally stream it everywhere (except Sp*tify)

🔹 Next, we are playing for a seriously great cause. .re.ka__ is putting on Rank + File 2, a concert series for community solidarity with all proceeds going to the Parkdale Housing Justice Network! and will be sharing this stage with us on July 4th in conjunction with the .

As usual we’re playing a lot of unreleased tracks for you in the setlist. Hope to see you there!
