What an awesome time we had at the Heritage Toronto Awards! It was truly an honour to be nominated for a Public History award against so many amazing projects! A big shoutout to our incredible team who made this project possible and it was so much fun have a reason to get together and celebrate!

Congratulations to Myseum of Toronto and their 'Derailed: The History of Black Railway Porters in Canada project and to the Bawadaan Collective for their short film, 'Missisakis: On the Indigenous History of the Tkaronto Islands' for their wins in this category.

It was around 1990 when they started popping up on intersections in the downtown core. With their body piercings, dyed hair, and mohawks, the squeegee kids mostly travelled in packs. They came from all over the country in hopes of making a buck. Some drivers appreciated their entrepreneurial spirit, others not so much.

In 1831, a miller named James Worts emigrated from England and struck up a partnership with his brother-in-law, William Gooderham, and Gooderham and Worts Limited was born. The company originally milled flour, adding a distillery to the site in 1837. Just three years later, Worts died mysteriously and many believe he never left the site…
