DSB Claims received an urgent report on a Friday at 3:47pm regarding 4-6 inches of water throughout a commercial property in Toronto. We made contact at 3:50pm, and were on site by 4:31pm. Emergency services commenced shortly afterwards, and continued throughout the weekend.

Because of our rapid response (and our continuous monitoring of emergency service operations over the weekend), the policy holder's business operations were able to resume by Monday morning.

The policy holder, producer, and our brokerage partner were very pleased with the after hours response, and handling of this claim; and we were grateful to be of service.

In situations like this one, a rapid response is important (and appreciated by the policy holders). Antonella arrived quickly, assessed the damage, and informed the policy holder of the next steps in the claims process.

When managing a claim, it’s important to approach policy holders with empathy, understand that they are under duress, and make them feel as comfortable as possible when we ask them for details.

Sometimes it can be challenging for a policy holder to “open up” right away, when they are under an extreme amount of stress – which is why it’s important to pay attention to the unspoken, or “read between the lines"...
