Last week I volunteered at the DemocracyXChange Summit in Toronto ().

The conversations went far beyond politics. People were discussing how AI, platform power, and Big Tech regulation are already influencing democratic systems in practice, as well as shaping economic structures.

One of the highlights was hearing open the event, speaking about how large tech platforms tend to degrade over time as they prioritize profit over users, and what that means for society.

I often follow discussions and leaders in Brazil who are asking similar questions about technology, power, and the future. Being there felt like a rare opportunity to get closer to the people working on these same challenges in Canada.

Being part of the team also gave me a chance to see these discussions from the inside, and to meet some of the people leading them. It reinforced something I have been paying attention to for a while: digital is no longer just about platforms, it is about power.
