Today I took advantage of a couple of vacation days by heading out on a three-hour walk along the Ajax waterfront. My destination was Simcoe Point, where an old cemetery remains despite all of the gravestones having been removed years ago. An information plaque at the entrance explains the history of the site, including the number of people buried there and mentions several unidentified individuals who washed ashore in 1899.
I decided to spend some time investigating the area with my SLS camera. The cemetery itself is peaceful, enclosed by three large maple trees and situated right on the edge of the water, its definitely beautiful place to spend eternity.
What I found was interesting. Throughout the investigation, the SLS camera did not detect a single humanoid figure within the cemetery, despite the abundance of trees, ferns, bushes, and other objects that have caused false human-shaped detections for me in the past. I've seen the camera map everything from chairs and banisters to sewing machines and door frames, so the complete lack of detections stood out.
As I was leaving the site, however, the camera chimed and briefly mapped what appeared to be a humanoid figure just outside the entrance, only a few meters away. After looking at the area, I believe it most likely identified a piece of wood that happened to resemble a small crouched figure. Still, it was interesting that nothing was detected within the cemetery itself, yet something appeared immediately after exiting.
Whether this was simply the camera interpreting a natural object as a human shape or something more is left to the viewer's interpretation.
If youre looking for a beautiful place to visit to learn some history or just to take in the sights, its a great place to venture to...just bring bug spray...
