Track 1 - Deuces

This song felt natural to kick off the album not just because of its high energy but because it also symbolizes the ushering in of a new era. It's about finding the courage and self-respect to leave a toxic and unfaithful relationship. Not just the literal romantic relationship described in the song, but the toxic relationship with unhealthy habits & lifestyles, a theme that was covered extensively on my first album. This album is bookended by 2 songs that are about finding the confidence to transcend fear and make difficult choices that better your life 🫘

I think that is the central theme of the whole album, illustrated by the title: "The More They Stay The Same."

The first album was titled "Everything Must Change" and was all about sifting through different carnal indulgences to try and find purpose before ultimately maturing and finding peace in the simpler and more pure things of life such as human connection. But that album ended on a note of nostalgia in which the last song (from which the album title was drawn) felt almost like a small setback in the progression of character that the album seemed to be taking. 6 years later, I kick off my next album, seemingly celebrating having finally thrown off this old toxic life.

I think the biggest question that I personally have, however, is how much of the unwavering conviction and (almost arrogant) confidence displayed in 'Deuces' is genuine, and how much of it is the subject trying to convince themselves that they've completely transcended this old toxic life when they really haven't? I wrote the song, and I'm not sure I even know the answer. What do you think?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American followers, and of course, happy album release day!!

I have been getting many requests for lyrics to my songs, so to coincide with the albums release, I have decided to post the lyrics to every song once a day for the next 8 days. I thought there was no song more fitting to be the first than this one:

Track 3 - Before You Lay Your Head

When writing this song, I envisioned it as a kind of lullaby. A parent putting their child to bed and trying to install positive values and life lessons into them as they fall asleep. Fittingly, this song deals heavily with themes of gratitude & thanksgiving, which made it the obvious choice for today!

So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I make this request. When the clock hits midnight tonight, and the chaos of the evening has died down, and you awaken from your food coma, throw this song on and take some time reflect on the true meaning of the holiday. It’s not about turkey and football and a day off work. It’s quite literally about: Thanksgiving.

Thank God for your life and the people in it. Thank Him for the resilience and the perspective that comes from hard times, and thank Him for the hope, love, and warmth that comes from good times. All that you have is a blessing, and all that you lack is a lesson. There is no healthier state a person can be in than one of gratitude.

So tonight, as you play this song, fill your heart with thankfulness and faith
