Since I am a fair weather or should I say I take the curling season off from playing disc golf, it allows me some time to reflect, visualize as well as watch lots of youtube disc golf. There are so many different ways of teaching, tips and pointers that it can get a little confusing, yet it is all part of gaining more knowledge and finding tidbits I can use in my own game as well as when I teaching. Just yesterday I posted Dave Dunipace's video on grip, and as I was watching it again, I adjusted my side arm grip a little. Felt better as I was sitting in my living room, kept playing with the positioning until I decided to throw a few today in my fancy winter coat, I easily had my best ever forehands, 300 feet plus, and these were my first throws of the season. I did wonder at times why my distance was lacking, yet I never thought that changing the grip would be it. I have thrown it this way for my entire career, PDGA # 4082, I can control and finesse them, but did not have the distance to really use it as a drive on most holes.
Moral of the story is simply that even when we manage or play fairly well, there could be a small tweak that will make a big difference, be it grip, foot work, follow through or anything else. This is why having a lesson or a friend look at your throw can make a nice difference and kick off the 2018 season in a surprisingly happy way,
If anyone is interested in a one on one or a group session, please contact me, as it stands I will be in Peterborough, London / St Thomas, Collingwood and who knows where else this spring.
Even if Paul does not say much, the great take away from this video is the planting of the front foot, for RHBH player, that would be your right foot,
