Today we celebrate the New Year for Trees! Every year, children all over Israel take the time to plant a tree and celebrate nature. It is the opportunity to appreciate our environment and give back. We, JNF Canada, are shocked by the images of the biggest fire in the Jerusalem area in years. According to Israel's Fire and Rescue Service over 17,000 dunams have been damaged and it will take decades to restore all that was lost.

Fire crews worked all night and thankfully today, homes in the area are no longer in danger, and only a few hotspots remain. After 52 consecutive hours, many families who were evacuated from the area are now permitted to return home.

We are proud to see KKL and JNF fire trucks on the ground and assisting with relief efforts. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Jerusalem, and we hope that the situation will continue to improve.
