A factory in Toronto’s emerging Studio District has been transformed into a modern and functional workplace. ⁣

Originally constructed in the 20th century as a facility to produce ammonia, this site on Heward Ave. has been repurposed for the film and television industry.⁣

Through rehabilitation, the original brick and timber structure emerges with a classic loft feel. The new floor expands the upper storey, maximizing leasable space. Original elements are complimented by steel and glass features. A rooftop terrace, elevator, unisex washrooms and showers updates the building for today’s modern workforce.⁣

The Cumulus team brings expertise in heritage, restoration and urban commercial development making us a great partner for adaptive reuse projects. We enjoy the challenge these projects present and the role they play in promoting sustainability and preserving our built and cultural heritage. ⁣

A trip to the emergency department can be a lengthy ordeal - especially for patients who don’t need to be triaged immediately. As demand for emergency services grows in downtown Toronto, UHN’s Toronto General Hospital wanted to take a fresh approach to mild and low acuity ED patients. Through extensive consultation with the Emergency Medicine team, Cumulus developed a responsive, flexible and collaborative space that adds almost 10,000 sq.ft. to emergency care at TGH. ⁣

Located adjacent to the ED the newly opened Michael Lawrence Turk Rapid Assessment Centre (RAC) allows for less-urgent patients to be effectively triaged and treated, keeping ED space for critical patients. Innovative in its approach the RAC offers a combination of recliner bays for vertical treatment, exam and procedure rooms and an isolation wing. Laid out with a focus on flow and efficiency the RAC employs calming biophilic features like landscaped views and improved acoustics to ensure a low stress environment for all.⁣
