Angeline has never learned the details of her mother Nelia’s turbulent childhood in The Philippines but believes that connecting with her family’s family past will make her feel “more Filipina.”
At fifteen, Nelia courageously fled the dangerous revolutions of 1970s Philippines with only half of her immediate family to create a better life and future for herself. Angeline hopes to find cultural belonging by joining Nelia as she travels back to her home country for the first time in 41 years.
