From Depeche Mode's "Dreaming of Me" and Howard Jones' "New Song" in the 80s to Weezer's "Undone - The Sweater Song" and Blur's "She's So High" in the 90s, music history is full of artists who seemed to burst out of the gates ready to take over the world.
Tonight the Retro Dance Party will take a listen to some of the strongest debut singles of the last 40+ years. Regardless of genre, label, or country of origin, the only criteria is that it must be the first commercially available song by a solo artist or band, including solo debuts from former band members (eg. Bjork's "Human Behaviour") or debuts by bands made from former solo artists or members of other bands ("Set Me Free" by Velvet Revolver)
So tune in tonight at 9:00 on Revolution Radio or Twitch and join in the fun!

If you've been listening to the Fun Facts Fridays Livestreams on Revolution Radio for the past few weeks, you know that we've been honouring Black History Month with a 4-part celebration of Black Excellence in music history. The first part addressed the 1940s and 1950s, the second part looked at the 1960s and 1970s, and last week we looked at the 1980s and 1990s.
Now, before we take a look at the years 2000 onward this coming Friday, I wanted to expand on that look at the 80s & 90s on my Tuesday Retro Dance Party.
So, tonight, in my own way, I will be recognizing and celebrating Black Excellence in the genres of New Wave, Alternative, and Electronic music and related genres in the 1980s and 1990s.
Join me at 9:00 PM EST on Revolution Radio and Twitch
