Leah and I were happy to represent our team at the Canadian HR Awards this evening where we nominated in the Service Provider of the Year category. 🙌🏻💜🎉
Although we weren’t winners this time around, it was great to be nominated with a fabulous group of Canadian service providers and be there to cheer on our long time clients Lindt Canada and CAA Club Group who snagged some well deserved wins.
Thanks for the great evening.

Amazing day at the golf tournament ⛳️ in support of . It is always great to get out and play (especially with top notch colleagues like and .gilchrist). It’s even better when you know you’re supporting an amazing cause.
Grateful for our fifteen year partnership with the team at CAA Club Group. It is truly a privilege to work with this organization who align their values to their actions each and every day.

Lead with a kite, not a leash.
A senior leader once shared that he gave his people enough leash not to choke themselves.
I never really liked that visual. Who wants people to choke themselves? Sounded like a leader that’s abdicating a bit of responsibility to me.
I prefer the idea of leading with a kite not a leash.
A kite can float and move in various directions and the kite flyer gently guides and keeps the kite airborne. It’s a much better visual that choking people with a leash.
It’s also quite fitting in the disruptive world of work. Outside forces (rain, wind, trees) can cause a kite to get tangled, disorientated and plunge to the earth.
Leaders need to anticipate changes, shift direction and from time to time, pick up the pieces. I think we’re in the era of kite leadership for sure. What do you think?

Fake it while you're making it.
Some people despise the phrase ‘fake it until you make it’. You should never fake anything because that’s being ‘inauthentic’.
The reality is, when you’re working on shifting a behaviour or creating a new habit, ‘faking it’ is how you’re going to feel.
Whenever we work on creating new leadership behaviours (eg: being less judgmental, being more collaborative, demonstrating a more flexible approach), it’s going to feel like we’re faking it.
That’s normal. Whenever we’re trying to shift our behaviour, we go through a stage called ‘conscious competence’. We are fully aware that we need to behave differently, but to do so we have to be really intentional about doing it. If I’m not naturally a very outgoing person but my job requires me to be one, I’m going to have to consciously think about saying hello to people and making small talk. And, in the early days that’s going to feel awkward, ‘not me’ and ‘fake’.
The good news is, the more we practice, the easier it becomes and the less ‘fake’ it will feel.
Sometimes, we do have to fake it until we make it if our role requires us to expand our leadership impact.
What behaviour do you have to be intentional about demonstrating?
