Why strip your towels?
Microscopic amounts of soap and detergent get locked into the fibers of bath towels. That make the towels get gummed up and can trap dirt, grime and bacteria even after a washing.
It is important to do this a couple of times a year to maintain good sanitation. Don’t be alarmed when the water is a murky brown colour… that means it worked.
The combined power of Arm & Hammer baking soda, Borax and OxiClean can transform the towels into clean ones that are softer and sanitized.
Dissolve half a cup of baking soda, Borax and OxiClean in warm water. Place the towels in the bathtub (or washing machine) in hot water to start off, and let stand over night. Use your hand or spatula to swoosh the mixture around. Drain the tub or washer in the morning and put through the rinse cycle. Instead of fabric softener use half a cup of vinegar and they will be like new.

How to clean toilet cistern
What you will need:
• White vinegar
• Baking soda
• Lemon juice (optional)
• Soft brush or old toothbrush
• Sponge or microfiber cloth
• Rubber gloves
*Avoid using bleach because it can damage rubber seals and internal parts over time.
1. Turn off the water supply and flush the toilet to drain most of the water out.
Put 1-2 liters of white vinegar into the cistern directly making sure it covers any stained areas and components.
Let this sit for about 2 hours (or overnight if you have heavy buildup)
Using the baking soda on a small brush, clean the walls of the cistern and scrub around the float, valve and waterline. Focus on brown, orange and green stains.
Rinse thoroughly by turning the water supply back on and flush toilet 2-3 times to rinse away residue
Optional: You can add ½ cup of lemon juice once a month or place a cup of vinegar in the cistern overnight ever two weeks to avoid buildup if you like.
The cistern should be cleaned out every 6 months (3 months if you get a lot of buildup) in future.

CLEANING YOUR SHOWER CURTAIN
Cleaning a shower curtain is crucial because it’s a breeding ground for mold, mildew, and soap scum, which can be harmful to your health. A shower curtain can get dirty due to the constant exposure to moisture, soap, and body oils, creating an ideal environment for bacteria and fungi to thrive, according an expert. Any moist area is susceptible to mold and mildew, and this is no exception.
When cleaning your shower curtain, especially with bleach or other strong cleaners, you want to make sure that the area is well-ventilated to avoid inhaling fumes. Wearing gloves can also protect your skin from irritation and a mask can protect your face and airways.
Washing Machine
1. Remove the shower curtain from the rings/hooks.
2. Place the curtain in the washing machine.
3. Add a small amount of detergent.
4. Select the delicate cycle and warm water setting.
5. Run the washing machine with the highest water level.
6. Hang the curtain to dry.
For both methods, adding a few towels to the wash can help scrub the curtain gently and enhance the cleaning process, without adding more work for you, suggests Stein.
How Often Should I Wash My Shower Curtain?
For optimal cleanliness, wash your shower curtain every 1-2 months. “Regular maintenance prevents the buildup of mold, mildew, and soap scum, keeping your bathroom fresh and hygienic,” says Stein. “You can also scrub the plastic curtain when you are cleaning the shower walls or tub too—double duty!”

If you worry about spiders and the like in your bedroom, get a sprayer bottle, fill half full of water and add several drops of peppermint. Shake and spray around the bottom of the bed or carpet. The smell repels most bugs; spiders, ants, etc. Then have a comfortable care free sleep

Getting rid of stains on your mattress:

1. Fill the 16 oz bottle with water and add 1 teaspoon of dish soap. After mixing well, spray it on the entire mattress. The soapy solution should be applied to the entire mattress surface. You will probably need two 16 oz soapy water bottles to cover the entire surface. Test the area with your hand.

2. Next, fill the 16 oz bottle half with water and half with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Once again, mix well and spray the entire mattress. Don’t forget to spray a little extra on the stained areas.

3. While the mattress is still damp, evenly dust the entire surface with baking soda. You will need 2-3 cups of baking soda for the entire mattress. Spread the baking soda over the mattress surface with a clean rag so it forms a thin layer.

4. It will take less than ten minutes to complete the full process. You can already see the stains on your mattress becoming lighter as you spread baking soda on them! There is a reaction going on. Make sure you open the windows overnight so that the baking soda can dry out.

5. The next day, sweep or vacuum the dried baking soda off the mattress surface and enjoy your stain-free mattress.
