A Blue Marble special place, Conques is a 1200 year old village in Occitanie, France best known for its religous importance to pilgrims through the middles ages to the current Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James). It is often difficult to have the right light and the best view in these mountain villages with narrow streets on multiple levels. But this afternoon was not bright sunshine so the heavy shadows you often find around these buildings were not an issue. It isn't always best to have blue skies and sun to get the best shots.

Learning action photography (one bad shot at a time). I was incredibly fortunate to be able to attend the Canadian F1 Grand Prix in Montreal for 12 years sitting in the grandstand. Starting in 2006 I had made the investment in camera gear, and I learned every year what I could by making lots of mistakes, but always getting a few shots that made it worthwhile. These first year shots aren't fantastic, I had a lot to learn about what to expect, about how to make cars look like they are moving fast, and about what to do with photos when the weekend was done. But it was the best education I could have had, and really the gateway to much more.
