Centre A is pleased to present three concurrent exhibits as part of the upcoming 48th Annual Powell Street Festival that highlight the breadth and depth of Japanese Canadian art and culture:  * 𝘈 𝘏𝘺𝘥𝘳𝘢 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 - 疫病流行記 by Anju Singh, Valerie Turner, and Derek Chan; * 𝘏𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘬 by Henry Tsang;  * and 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴𝘶𝘨𝘪 by Brava Kilo and Annie Sumi (August 3 – 4 only). Join us on Friday, August 2 at the opening to meet the artists 🥂 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: August 2, 5 – 8 PM  𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱: August 2 – 17, 2024 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀: Weds – Sat, 12 – 6 PM, and Sunday August 4 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Centre A (205 – 268 Keefer St, Vancouver, BC V6A 1X5)  𝘈 𝘏𝘺𝘥𝘳𝘢 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 - 疫病流行記 is a multi-channel audio-visual media arts sculptural theatre installation based on the 2021 premiere online production, A Journal of the Plague Year, conceived and directed by Colleen Lanki (1965 - 2023). A Journal of the Plague Year is an English-language translation of the play, Ekibyō ryūkōki (疫病流行記,1975), written by Terayama Shūji (1935 - 1983) in collaboration with Kishida Rio (1946 - 2003), co-translated by Tsuneda Keiko and Colleen Lanki. Our Founder and Executive Director, Maiko Behr, seen here leading us on a visual journey into the world of sakura during her lecture: "Cherry Blossoms in the Visual, Poetic, and Performing Arts of Japan". This slide lecture was part of our day of programming during Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre's Month of O-Hanami.
