Meet Sathika Witherana, UBC Engineering - Okanagan Civil Engineering Alum, who has been using her expertise to improve infrastructure across BC!

Sathika wasn't entirely sure engineering was the right path... until her UBC Applied Science Co-op experiences changed everything.

From knocking on a prof's door to land her first co-op as a research assistant and surveyor, to reviewing building permits at the City of Richmond, to working on heavy construction projects in northern Alberta, each experience opened her eyes to the many opportunities in civil engineering.

She's currently working with the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit. Sathika also volunteers as a bridge corps mentor with Engineers in Action, where she travelled to Eswatini to build a 73-metre suspended bridge by hand, connecting a community to health care and education.

Her advice? "Stay curious and don't limit yourself to one preconceived path! There are many options within engineering and there is so much that you can do with your degree."
