Machining steam-bent wood releases tensions stored within. This causes it to want to twist and bend inwards (rather than out, as with bent plywood). This at first seemed a huge problem as nothing wanted to align. But once fixed to the Y-frame this results in placing the whole chair structure in tension, like a tennis racket, making it tremendously strong and durable. @ Vancouver, British Columbia
