guxʷdema: universe collection, 2026

i am inspired by the Haisla word guxʷdema which ive seen translated as universe, or also world. i love thinking about what my Ancestors meant when they used this word. 

these pieces are  based on actual NASA imagery of three different nebulas.

these are made with hundreds of different beads of all types, including semi precious gemstones, 24k gold, and glow in the dark beads. 

each piece is made with no pattern, just one bead at a time. these take about 4-20 hours per piece. i make these very rarely due to the eye strain, muscle/neck strain and intense focus they require. i hope my work and care is evident in these precious wearable artworks.

guxʷdema: universe: eagle nebula 

these pieces are inspired by actual NASA imagery of the Eagle Nebula, also known as Messier 16, M16, or Star Queen Nebula. the nebula contains several active star-forming regions and lies in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way. it is estimated to be 1-2 million years old, and is approx 5700 light years away (info taken from Wikipedia). 

i am inspired by the Haisla word guxʷdema which ive seen translated as universe but also world in my word resource lists. i love thinking about what my Ancestors meant when they used this word. i imagine maybe it meant everything outside ourselves, everything out there, everything around us. 

i create these pieces using a giant, growing and evolving bead mix ive been adding to for the past six years. there are over 150 different types of beads in this mix, some of which i no longer have. 

these contain charlotte facet cut, czech, toho, delica, vintage and miyuki beads. they also include 24k gold plated beads, 24k gold lined opal beads, and glow in the dark toho beads. 

these are precious, one of a kind pieces. they took anywhere between 4-20 hours of work, spread out over multiple days and weeks, working with no pattern, just looking at the image and adding bead by bead. 

i make these very rarely due to the eye strain, muscle/neck strain and intense focus they require. i hope my work and care is evident in these precious wearable artworks. 

prices range from approx 100-730cad. they will be numbered on my shop as shown in the messy pic with the red scribbles 😂

- a one of a kind fine art wall tapestry. 'makwala (moon) phases. This tapestry symbolizes the guidance, protection, and continuous circle of life that the moon represents. Each crochet piece is made with intention and is smudged before being packaged. valued at 250cad

This wraffle is meant to help support my beloved cat, muse, supervisor, and part time model Prudence who was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and requires radiation treatment which will cost approx $3500, as well as follow up appointments to check blood work etc. 

she is currently undergoing this treatment this week at the clinic, and we are sending her good energy and prayers for her recovery and healing.

life lately..

beadin up a storm in between resting my muscles and tendons that are flarin up lately. using devils club, aleve, cold packs. doing weight lifting and yoga to strengthen em.

listening to - snrk, new nine inch nails album, beach house podcast - listening to bone valley right now
watching - finished the pitt, started hacks
reading - all rachel reid all the time
current fave beading snack - goldfish crackers, black coffee, pb cookies

prudie is still stuffed up but slowly getting better. her iodine treatment is scheduled for june 1 😵‍💫 and i am working away on wraffle pieces to hopefully help cover the giant vet bill.

enjoying the sunny days, and trying to work through heavy emotional stuff.. but slowly feeling lighter.

still sober 🙏🏽 almost three years!! and having intense dreams.. the tarot cards told me to pay attention to my dreams, to accept help, and to trust my intuition cause i know what's right 🌌🔮❤️

thankful for good days and bad, thankful to still be here. praying for those of us going through hard times.. praying for love, healing and protection for my family and loved ones.

westcoast wassum - these pieces celebrate the colours often seen in many west coast artworks.

they are about my love for the west coast. they were made with loving calm energy, thoughts of my hometown, growing up, going out on the boat with my dad, watching him drop crab traps, smelling fresh salty air, hearing eagles and ravens, eating delicious smoked fish, delicious huge steaks of halibut, smoked oolichans, quiet nights and bright stars. ⁣⁣⁣

i hope by bringing them home, if you are not Indigenous, they display your ally-ship and commitment to being a good relation to Indigenous folks.

they are made with beautiful miyuki beads, including 24k gold plated beads. these hang about 4 inches on gold plated nickel free hooks.
