Recent Acquisition: Moonlight Visitors by Ted Harrison.

Painted in 1990 while Ted Harrison was still living in the Yukon, Moonlight Visitors is a luminous celebration of northern life. A mother, child, and small dog gather outside a quiet village beneath a glowing full moon, surrounded by rolling hills and sweeping skies rendered in Harrison’s unmistakable palette of vivid blues, oranges, yellows, and purples. The rare nocturnal subject, striking scale, and exceptional condition make this an outstanding example of the artist’s work.

Ted Harrison (1926–2015) was one of Canada’s most beloved painters, renowned for transforming the Yukon landscape into bold, colourful compositions that balanced simplicity with emotional depth. Harrison developed the distinctive visual language that earned him national recognition, including appointment to the Order of Canada in 1987. His work continues to be held in major public and private collections around the world.

For Sean Yelland, painting is a practice in observation. A fleeting gesture, an overlooked street corner, a solitary figure passing through the city: moments most people walk past become the foundation for his work.

“My paintings are all about looking, and seeing, being observant everywhere I go.”

In Lost in Thought, an anonymous figure moves through an urban landscape, dwarfed by the architecture around him. The scene is relatable and charged with narrative, inviting viewers to pause and look a little closer.
