Someone saw this at their doctor’s office to protect people from using predatory disability tax credit companies where you must pay for their services - one way or the other.

“Protect Yourself from
Predatory Disability Tax
Credit Companies

Some companies are targeting patients, especially seniors, offering "help" with the Disability Tax Credit.

Examples include:
True North Disability, Swift Disability Services
These companies can take 20 percent of your tax refund.
Refunds are often $15,000 or more, which means they may take thousands of dollars.

They do not:
• Fill out your DTC forms, Advocate to CRA, Help with approval
How they trap you in a contract
Many of these companies require patients to sign a contract before they even send the DTC forms to our clinic.

These contracts often include:
• A clause stating that you are not allowed to apply for the DTC on your own for two years. Permission for the company to pursue legal action if you try to apply independently. Terms that allow them to claim 20 percent of any refund you receive, even if all the work was done by your doctor and the CRA This means a patient could be locked into a costly agreement they cannot easily leave, even if they later learn that the company did nothing to assist them.

The fees charged by True North Disability are currently under legal scrutiny. The federal government attempted to cap these fees at one hundred dollars, but a 2021 British Columbia Supreme Court injunction, after a challenge from True North and its co-founder, blocked the regulation. The case is scheduled for trial in July 2026.

More than 90 disability and mental health organizations from across the country are registering their concerns about the further expansion of Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) law.

The groups are opposed to MAiD access being widened to people whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness. They have shared this position in an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, Justice Minister and Attorney General Sean Fraser, and Health Minister Marjorie Michel. The letter was copied to the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying (AMAD) comprised of MPs and Senators.

Inclusion Canada is one of the signatories to the letter. People with disabilities and mental illness who face poverty, housing insecurity, social isolation, and barriers to timely health care need help and hope — not MAiD.

Please share this letter with your local Member of Parliament and Senator and urge them not to expand assisted su***de and also repeal the discriminatory Track 2 pathway to MAiD that is only for people with disabilities.
