We are so sad to learn of the passing of Bonnie Jane Maracle. We are so grateful for her commitment and dedication to the CILR program and our students over the past 20 years. Her contributions to both our in-community and online deliveries were amazing. The students loved her, we loved her. We so appreciated her thoughts and ideas that helped to shape the evolution of our curriculum and program over time. It was a joy to spend time with her during grad week last June and we are grateful she made the trip! We will miss her and send warm thoughts and prayers to her family and friends at this time. ❤️

Dear Friends and Community Members,

It is with profound sadness that the Ontario Native Literacy Coalition and Turtle’s Back Publishing share the passing of our dear Board Member and Chief Governance Officer, Bonnie Jane Maracle, on February 12, 2026.

Bonnie was an inspiring leader, educator, and advocate whose unwavering dedication to Indigenous learning and education touched countless lives across our communities. Through her commitment, wisdom, and generous spirit, she strengthened our collective work and helped shape the future of Indigenous literacy and empowerment in Ontario and beyond.

We will remember Bonnie for her kindness, integrity, and tireless pursuit of knowledge and truth. Her vision and voice enriched every conversation, and her legacy will continue to guide the work we do in service of our learners, educators, and communities.

On behalf of our staff, board members, and partners, we extend our deepest condolences to Bonnie’s family, friends, and all who had the honour of knowing her. We are profoundly grateful for her years of service and the light she brought to our shared journey.

Bonnie will be dearly missed, but her spirit and teachings will remain with us always.

With heartfelt sympathy,
ONLC and TBP Staff
