In this article, Jack shares his experience as a Canada Service Corps Youth Coordinator, reflecting on the impact he’s made in his community and how the role has shaped his own life!

“I have been working with VIDEA for about six months now. In this role, I facilitate a weekly arts program alongside the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society, designed for at-risk youth in downtown Victoria. The moment it became clear that my work was making a difference was when I started seeing youth return regularly and build connections with one another. We are currently painting a large mural inside the VYES Club, and it has been truly remarkable to witness the creativity and talent of these young people.”

Disability isn’t always something you can see. Many people live with chronic illnesses, neurodivergence, mental health conditions, and other disabilities that aren’t immediately apparent, but that doesn’t make their experiences any less real!

Creating more inclusive communities starts with challenging stereotypes, believing people’s lived experiences, and recognizing that disability takes many forms!
