HOW TO KEEP YOUR FEET WARM?

Okay, I see this question alot. Here are my 40 years of experience when it comes to keeping my feet warm whether ice fishing, snowmobiling or wading icy waters.

1) Buy boots 1.5 to 2 sizes bigger. These boots are your outdoor boots only, not to be mistaken for everyday use. You will always have two pairs of socks when wearing these.

2) Pull full boot insulation layer out and always add a new felt insole. Put back the full insulation layer often made of felt or some foiltech material.

3) Wear merino wool socks. One thin wicking pair followed by a thick pair.

4) When driving from your home to your fishing spot in your car, don't wear both layers of socks, just the wicking pair and wear shoes that breathe. If your socks are moist before you get to your spot, you have already lost.

5) When putting on your second pair of heavy socks and boots, don't get them wet. We often change outside and during the layerup we step into snow or puddles - again keep feet dry.

The boots I have used for ice fishing are those rubber kamik insulated boots. Inexpensive but keep your feet dry when you have slush on the water. Worst thing is when your boots are not 100% waterproof.

Finally, never wear the same pair of socks the next day. After one day of use, they lose their ability to hold heat. And.... Make sure you pull the boot insulation and insole out to dry each night.

I've fished many years in cold cold conditions. These steps are the ticket to warm feet and you don't need to break the bank.
