💜 Dr. Carolyn Ren is a professor in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. She currently holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Microfluidic Technologies and is the director of Waterloo Microfluidics Laboratory. Dr. Ren is also serial entrepreneur and her microfluidic innovations have spurred the launch of four start-up companies with her students (Advanced Electrophoresis Solutions, Alphaxon, QuantWave Technologies, and Air Mircrofluidics Systems).

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. George Shaker, adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, on receiving the 2026 Service Award from the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
💜 Dr. Shaker was recognized for his global leadership within the Society, including growing its Travel Grants program from roughly 10 awards a year to more than 100 and introducing new funding clusters for Africa and Latin America.
He'll be presented with the award at the 2026 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation in Detroit this July.
