What's with the orange circles on the grass? Westvale is getting new trees and the circles mark the spots!

As part of the 10,000 trees project, the City of Waterloo is planting new trees in Westvale, including Red River Park, Bolingbrooke Park, Westwind Park, Westfield Links, Westvale (Crater) Park, and Heather Hill Link.

Look for the new trees start to appear in mid-June!

Thanks to everyone who mulched, trimmed and planted in our Pollinator Garden in Bolingbrooke Park on Sunday. With your help, it only took just over an hour to get it all done!

We lined the edge with newsprint covered with mulch to keep the grass and weeds from creeping into the garden.

We also planted a few new additions to the garden, including Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) which is the host plant for Monarch butterfly. This particular milkweed does not spread aggressively as common milkweed, and should do well in the centre of the garden where it a bit more damp.

A special thanks to our young gardeners Avoleen and Rolian for their help!
