Excel Ranches

While we honestly never thought we’d have time to fit 4-H into our already crazy schedule of baseball, softball, hockey, ringette, volleyball and everything else inbetween, but we’re so thankful we found a way.

For Cody, coming back to the Sunniebend 4-H Club has been pretty special. It was a huge part of his childhood, and now getting to watch our own kids make memories in the same club is something we don’t take for granted.

A huge thank you to and for supporting Avery and Lincoln by purchasing their steers. Your community support does t go unnoticed.

While both kids, and all of us at the ranch, were incredibly proud of their steers, including how the looked in the championship drive. Lincoln was especially adamant that his didn’t just get resold at the mart post achievement day or under appreciated for what he was. He wanted to know exactly where it was going and that people would truly enjoy the beef. In the end, we decided to buy him back ourselves. The things we do for our kids 🤦🏼‍♀️

While butcher day was harder on Cody and I this go round, we are incredibly proud that our kids understand the purpose behind raising beef cattle. They know that producing high-quality food is something to be proud of, and they understand the responsibility that comes with raising livestock with care from day one.

The first steaks from Lincoln’s steer hit the grill today, and wow. The marbling on this Limousin steer is unbelievable. It’s a pretty cool reminder that the work put into good genetics, nutrition, and animal care really does pay off.

There are so many lessons 4-H teaches that last far beyond show day.
